Aga Khan Palace is not only a beautiful building but also a place that played an important role in India’s freedom struggle. It was built in 1892 by Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III. During the freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi, his wife Kasturba Gandhi, and his close follower Mahadev Desai were kept under house arrest here after the Quit India Movement of 1942.
Inside the palace, there is a museum with photographs, diaries, personal belongings, and documents that show important events from Gandhi Ji’s life. Some rooms still look the same as they did when Gandhi Ji lived here. The palace also has memorials for Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai, who died during their stay here.
The palace is surrounded by green gardens, wide lawns, and peaceful pathways, making it a calm and refreshing place to visit. The architectural style of the building includes large arches, Italian-style balconies, and beautifully carved designs that make it look grand and royal.
Today, Aga Khan Palace stands as a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and patriotism. People visit here to remember the struggles India went through to gain freedom. It is one of the best places in Pune for students and tourists who want to learn about India’s history in a peaceful environment.
